Red Velvet


I think I missed the bus for red velvet growing up because I never thought it was something to give a hoot over. Last summer I tried to bake red velvet cupcakes and failed miserably - so miserably that I tossed every one of them in the trash. The old recipe I used had a few tablespoons of cocoa, a lot of vinegar, and so much food coloring that I couldn't get the taste out of my mouth. After scavenging the Internet for hours, I think I found the recipe that I'll stick to forever.

Melting Moments


I used to love eating melting moments (aka snowball cookies) as a kid. After I found out how much butter goes into them, I've cut back how much I 'taste test' before giving them away. They're slightly-sweet, super-crumbly, extra-buttery cookies that pair well with coffee or tea. Some people complain that they're a little dry, but I enjoy their melt-in-your-mouth texture.

First post! - butter mochi -

Butter mochi is a rich, chewy dessert typically found at local plate lunch places or bake sales. All of the ingredients can be found in any super market. I found this recipe after trudging through lots of local cookbooks that my family has accumulated over the years. This one provides a great consistency and browns evenly every time.
